SONY RX100 II

                                      SONY RX100 II

Sony India has today officially launched the RX100 II, a much awaited update to the already very popular RX100. The camera brings about a bucket full of changes, though they may not be so apparent on first glance.

The RX100 II has a 20.9 megapixel sensor, same as the RX100 with an effective resolution of 20.2 megapixels, same as the RX100. So may would be inclined to think that the sensor in the two cameras is the same, but Sony claims that is not the case. It is possible that the micro-lens array has received some tweaking, which does result in noticeable changes in image quality, especially with BSI-CMOS sensors.

The lens on the RX100 II is also identical to the one of the RX100, a Zeiss Vario Sonnar T* 28-100mm f/1.8-4.9 with optical image stabilization. While we’d have appreciated a bigger aperture at the telephoto, but given the large BSI sensor, it may be easy to get away with low light shots at the telephoto end, though we’d be skeptical.

What actually has changed, and is possibly the most noticeable thing about the RX100 II is the multi-accessory hot-shoe you will see on top of the camera. This new avatar of the RX100 II also incorporates a tiltable screen. Speaking on the screen, it has a 1.2 million dot resolution, but instead of just having RGB pixels, Sony has infused it with an extra white pixel. Four dots (RGBW) make up one pixel on the display, which permits it to display images in great clarity even under harsh sunlight.

The other much needed change comes to the video mode, which can record Full HD video at 24p and 25p.Other refinements include a step zoom function that’s accessible via the camera’s customisation menu, allowing the user to choose from five popular focal lengths using the control ring – 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 70mm or 100mm.

If you are eager to get your hands on the new camera, it is available right away across Sony Stores for Rs. 42,990.

SONY ALPHA 7R II

                            SONY ALPHA 7R II

The Sony a7R II is a 42MP full frame mirrorless camera with 5-axis image stabilization, featuring the world's first (and currently only) 35mm BSI CMOS sensor, and including a hybrid autofocus system and 4K video capabilities. It's the fifth in the company's a7 range of full frame cameras and the second high-resolution 'R' model. However, although its name and appearance are very similar to the first round of a7s, the R II arguably represents just as significant a step forwards as those first full frame mirrorless models did.

The reasons for suggesting this are two-fold. Although the a7R II's body is essentially the same as that of the 24MP a7 II (albeit with more substantial magnesium alloy construction), the camera includes two significant changes:

The first is that this is the first full frame camera to feature a sensor based on BSI CMOS technology. Although Sony always stressed that the benefits of BSI designs are most valuable in small sensors, its application on larger scales should reduce the pixel-level disadvantages of moving to higher pixel counts (which means an improvement in quality when viewed at a standard output size).

Secondly, and perhaps, most unexpectedly: the camera's phase-detection autofocus capabilities have been increased to the point that it not only focuses quickly and effectively with its own lenses but can also do so with lenses designed for other systems. This may not sound like a big deal until you think about what Sony needs to do to make the camera a success: win-over dedicated photographers, many of whom are already committed to other systems.

CANON EOS 5D MARK IV

                                 CANON EOS 5D MARK IV

The Canon EOS 5D series is arguably one of the most recognizable camera lines of the digital age and the Mark IV is designed to appeal to the same wide range of enthusiasts and professionals. Nearly identical-looking to its predecessor, it receives substantial upgrades under the hood, including: a higher-resolution sensor with Dual Pixel autofocus, 4K video capture, an upgraded AF system, a touchscreen, improved weather-sealing, built-in Wi-Fi/NFC, an interval timer and GPS. All this adds up to a camera that fits into Canon's product line nicely as the all-around full-frame option.

It is built around a new 30.4MP CMOS sensor and uses the Digic 6+ processor. The AF system is from the flagship 1D X Mark II and contains 61 AF points (41 of which are cross-type) with up to 24% expanded vertical coverage compared with the system in the Mark III. The center point is sensitive to -3EV in One Shot (AF-S) mode (in Live View the sensor is sensitive to -4EV
with a fast lens).

4K video capture is a welcome addition to this camera and users can record in either 24 or 30p, albeit with a 1.64x crop. All footage is captured as Motion JPEG. Additionally, the camera allows for 4K Frame Grabs, effectively giving users 30 fps stills shooting with (Dual Pixel) AF. We've seen that the camera suffers from some rolling shutter, but it may still have some merit for capturing the decisive moment when 7fps just isn't enough.

While developing the IV, Canon says it sought feedback from 5D-series users and found that dynamic range, resolution, AF precision and AF speed were the four most important areas improvements were requested. On paper, the Mark IV seems to address these aspects nicely.

Canon 5D Mark IV Key Specifications:
